“Theatre is a school where one is taught while being entertained” – Molière

The European Theatre Company is a unique and innovative, professional touring company which performs high-quality, educational, foreign language theatre in schools, colleges, theatres and art centres throughout the United Kingdom, motivating audiences by bringing European theatre alive through fun, imaginative, lively and colourful productions that are visual, easy to understand and enjoy. The company currently tours French, German and bilingual productions annually to over 45,000 young people throughout the U.K.

The artistic policy of The European Theatre Company is to present a wide variety of great European theatre, both adaptations of classic works and modern plays, in their original language, and new writing in a bilingual mixture, to the very highest artistic standards, with a professional, international team of artists.

The European Theatre Company was established in 1992 with these aims:

  • To go out into the community and perform quality European Theatre in schools and colleges, not normally possible through the school curriculum, in a fun and accessible way to compliment and enhance the school curriculum, with scripts or pupil packs and teachers’ notes provided in advance and either participation and interaction during the performance or a discussion offered afterwards.
  • To give the audience an experience both dramatically and linguistically and for the audience to leave the performance inspired to continue learning and discovering European languages and cultures.
